Paramount Drops Blu-ray DVD Technology
A sad truth in the field of TV technology is that the best technology is not always the one triumphs, when two competing technologies will compete with each other. The history of TV technology is littered with examples of this. The person who most people are familiar with most of the format war between Betamax and VHS tape formats. Although VHS format, in particular, won the war, many people argued that Betamax was actually the superior format. Aless prominent example can be seen in the first laser video disc format that was introduced around the same time as the VHS and Betamax tape formats. Laserdiscs essentially primitive DVD's, which were about the same size as an old-fashioned vinyl records. Even though DVD's preferred format for video cassettes are now the two video-cassette formats firmly defeated the laser disc format when it comes to consumer video.
At the moment we see another example ofthis development with the High Def DVD format was. There are two formats in this war, both vying for control of the market. One format is called Blu-ray and it is supported by Sony and a number of other computer hardware manufacturers and movie studios. His rival called HD-DVD, which was invented by Toshiba and supported by Microsoft and a few other film studios. Both formats are based on similar laser technology, both use discs that have the same size as the standard DVD's,and neither format can be played on the other format player.
The Blu-ray format is the superior in terms of storage capacity. It can store over twenty-five gigabytes per side of a single disc for a total of fifty gigabytes per disc In contrast, the HD DVD format to store fifteen gigabytes per side of a disc for a total of only thirty gigabytes. Twenty gigabytes per disc is a very big difference between the twoFormats. To be fair, however, has some proprietary HD-DVD interactive features, which does not have Blu-ray.
Despite the Blu-ray's technical superiority, at least as storage media for computers and the fact that it was HD-DVD is selling better than two to one, has failed in terms of the number of sold DVDs, Blu-ray, the winning format war. This is because a format war is he led by propaganda, alliances, and the pricing tactics at least as much as it passed throughtechnological expertise available.
The latest blow to Blu-ray's superior position, the decision by Paramount to release high-def DVD's only in the HD DVD format was. Prior to this announcement was Paramount has been releasing their titles in both formats, but now it has taken are paying off one, to produce market-and HD-DVD exclusively.
This is a blow for consumers and dealers, and since the Blu-ray format. Retailers who currently sell Paramount titleBlu-ray will be renewed once the stocks are not always those discs, and Paramount has even made a u-turn in announcements that it be published recently released movies on Blu-ray will be.
While this step may be good for HD-DVD, and Paramount may have received short-term profit, Paramount reputation is sure to be damaged. Perhaps irreparably.

| Review by Timothy Disbrow (USA) 2010-07-16 This product is a mixed blessing for me. Without a high speed connection, you will be frustrated beyond measure. The Internet TV function (which includes Netflix, Pandora, Vudu and Blockbuster) requires 1.5 Mbps speed for uninterrupted functioning according to the messages on the screen. I purchased 5Mbps DSL service from Verizon (Fios is not avail... Read more Samsung BD-C7500 1080p reviews | ||

| Review by Stephen T. Crye (Earth) 2010-07-09 I don't often pan a product or a company, but I am obligated to warn the public about this. Bought the unit at Xmas last year. Seemed to work ok, we have not used it much. Connected to a Samsung 32" LCD TV. Just purchased Avatar on Blu-ray, sat down to enjoy it. When we loaded the disk it complained it used the "latest technology" and ... Read more Samsung BD-P1590 Blu-ray reviews | ||

| Review by S. Paris (Fleetwood, PA) 2010-07-28 I've had this player about a year. Firmware glitches and incompatabilites with certain titles have prevented me from watching several movies with the latest being Invictus and Book of Eli using the most recent 2.09 Firmware. | Review by J. Brian Pitts (Seattle, WA) 2010-07-25 I purchased (and ultimately exchanged) two of these players. The Blu-Ray experience is great & the streaming is basically good (but having to re-register my Netflix account seemingly every-other day was annoying), but the majority of what I was playing was DVDs, which are what make up the bulk of my library. The upscaling was fine, but at least 60%... Read more Samsung BD-C5500 1080p reviews | ||
